“We call spinifex grass baru… all over Ngarluma country you can see the grass. The old people used to use the sseds in their flour…you know pound it up… You can use the spinifex wax or polka for making spears and things like that…when the sun’s going down the spinifex turns a different color…all red and pink. We put that grass all over that emu… we burn him to get the feathers off… he’s ready then. You got to be careful walking near that grass… he might prick you”.
