Kapi Tjukula – Rock Hole

Acrylic on Linen
101.5 X 101.5cm
Community: Amata

In this painting Tiger has depicted the rock holes (circles) at Piltati – his country. There is a significant deep rock hole at Piltati. Water collects in these rock holes after the rains. The line through the middle represents a creek or water courses that fill the rock holes. The ‘fingers’ is the water trickling into the rock hole. These rock holes were an important source of water during the dry season when most of the water holes and creeks dried up. Water is an essential element in the desert. Knowledge of rock hole sites is passed on from generation to generation and revered by all Anangu (people) Pitjantjatjara.
